Kids Say the Darnedest Things: Poop and Toothpaste

I'm still bummed about the weather forecast! We were supposed to have rain today, but the forecast has been updated to just wind. There might be rain tomorrow, so keep your fingers crossed that we can try our rainy day activity then!

Oliver's still keeping things lively by telling us all sorts of hilarious things. The other day, he came up to me and said, "I smell like toothpaste. Jo smells like poop."

Sure enough, she needed a changing! He also tells her regularly that she'll learn to use the potty this summer, and then she can wear undies.

Kids Say the Darnedest Things: Vacation

My husband and I went on vacation for five days. We talked to Oliver about it before hand, and I felt like he understood the gist of what was going on. I kept reminding him, "We'll be back on Monday." He did well!

We're getting back into the swing of things at home. Now, every time Jo gets into mischief or tries to play with Oliver's toys, he tells me, "Jo needs to go on vacation."

Kids Say the Darnedest Things: Fart!

A few weeks ago, Jo farted. Oliver laughed, and then he said to me, "Oliver gets to say play food processor, Mom gets to sing, and Jo gets to fart."

Weird and funny, but what's weirder is that he's said that exact phrase about half a dozen times since then! I asked Andrew if he'd taught him to say that, but he hadn't.

So, now, every time Jo farts, Oliver explains to us that he gets to play the food processor, I get to sing, and Jo gets to fart.

Kids Say the Darnedest Things: Disney Edition

Oliver was watching the ballroom scene from Beauty and the Beast on Youtube. He said, "Oh! Look! It's Mom and Dad!"

I laughed and said, "What?"

He walked up to the monitor and pointed to Belle and said, "That's Mom." Then, he pointed to Beast and said, "That's Dad!"

At least I'm Belle.

Kids Say the Darnedest Things: Halloween Edition

The kids and I went to a nursing home with MOMS Club today to do some trick-or-treating from the memory patients (those with dementia and Alzheimer's and such). I dressed Oliver up as a fireman, and we practiced saying, "Trick or treat!" before we left.

It went pretty well. Most of the elderly people were sweet and overjoyed to see the kids. One insisted on eating her candy herself, and another just pretended to put candy into the kids' baskets. The kids were all great! None of them got upset when one of the candy givers was a little slow or confused. Oliver, who is normally painfully shy around others, got very confident in the presence of candy. He walked up to each person there and said, "Trick or treat!" It was a fun morning out.

Well, we're back home now, and the kids are playing together. Jo sometimes shrieks at Oliver if he doesn't let her play with the toy she wants. Oliver keeps scolding her by saying, "Hey! Be nice to the fireman!"

Here are some pictures from our day out.
Joanna was pretty miffed about wearing the hat part of her dog costume (she was the fire dog).

Oliver wasn't very happy about dressing up until I showed him old photos of himself on the fire truck at the children's museum. I think the promise of candy helped, too. Yes, he learned what candy is today.

Here's my trick-or-treat-er in action!

Another little girl, Claire, who is about Jo's age was very interested in handing out her candy to everyone else. Jo was very interested in taking it. Here she is checking out her lollipop.

Kids Say the Darnedest Things: The Boss

We're meeting up with MOMS Club this morning, and so I told Oliver he was going out to see the kids. He objected and said, "No kids!"

I looked at him and said, "Yes, we're going to see the kids. I said so."

Oliver replied, "OK, we're going to see the kids. Mom said so. Mom's the boss."

Kids Say the Darnedest Things: Potty Humor Edition

Oliver enjoys watching anything "automatic" at work.  He likes the buttons available for people in wheel chairs to open doors at certain businesses.  He loves automatic sinks and paper towel dispensers.  If anything works on its own, Oliver announces that it's automatic!

A few days ago, Oliver was on the potty, and he started to pee.  When the flow stopped, he looked surprised and pointed at the bowl and said, "Oh!  It's automatic!"

Then, today, at my brother's house, Oliver had to, well, poop.  He sat on the toilet and went.  After I heard a little plunk, he pointed down in the bowl and said, "Oh!  It's an airplane!"  I started laughing and he said in his sing-song voice, "No!  That's not an airplane!"

Kids Say the Darnedest Things

I've been wanting to make this blog topic for a while now.  Oliver has gotten to the point where he occasionally says the most hilarious things.  It seems fitting to record them here, so I can tease him later.  Expect to see these posts fairly regularly, especially as he gets more vocal.

This afternoon, we left my parents' house and headed to Andrew's parents' house to make our Mother's Day rounds.  As we pulled into my in-laws' driveway, Oliver looks around and says in complete and utter awe, "So many garages!"

Funny, but it can't compete with what he said a few months ago.  I was in the midst of changing Jo's diaper on my bed.  I took off her soiled diaper and turned around to grab a wipe.  She was at the base of the bed, but this was before she was rolling over, so I didn't have to worry about her falling off the bed.  The moment I turned away, she started pooping.  It shot out like mustard from a squeeze bottle, and she left a trail of liquid baby poop on the carpet.  Yes, it squirted out of her butt and onto the floor.  Babies are amazing little creatures.  The carpet in our house is an absolute wreck already, so it wasn't that big of a deal.  I grabbed an old towel and blotted it to get the worst of it up.  I finished changing Jo, and then I went downstairs to check on Oliver and to get the bottle of vinegar to finish the cleaning job.  Oliver came back upstairs with me and saw Jo's poop mess on the carpet.  He looked distressed, and then he pointed to it and said, "Oh no!  Mom peed!"
