Oliver Spikes His Hair with Food

A few days ago, I took some water and spiked Oliver's hair with it. He didn't seem to mind a bit. It stayed up pretty well, and he looked adorable! The next day (Sunday), Oliver spilled his milk. Imagine my surprise when he rubbed his hand in the milk and then used his milky hand to rub his hair every-which-way.

I thought it was kind of funny, and I wondered if he was trying to mimic me from when I did his hair. I decided it wasn't likely and dismissed the thought. That is, I dismissed it until yesterday, when he did the exact same thing with the juice from the orange pieces I gave him. The funny part is, he only rubs the right side of his head with his right hand!

Today, I handed Oliver his sippy cup of milk while I made some cookie dough (I made orange spritz snowflake cookies!). Later, he was digging into the drawers to play with Tupperware when I noticed his head was sticky, and his hair was matted in some areas and sticking out in others. The mischievous little boy must have used milk to spike his hair again!
On the one hand, I'm impressed. He's so observant and so smart. On the other hand, what the...?! How do I get my son to stop putting milk and juice in his hair? Hahaha.

The thing about Oliver in the kitchen is...

...he doesn't just pull out tupperware and oven mitts from the drawers. He relocates them to other drawers and cabinets.

Let Me Tell You Somrthing About Nearly-10-Month Olds

They get into stuff. Not just stuff. They get into everything.

Yesterday, I posted about the perils of shampoo bottles. That was just the beginning. Oliver discovered fun in pulling on electrical cords yesterday. I unplugged his monitor and set it up high because it was just a matter of time until he pulled it down onto his head. Situation remedied, right? Wrong! Oliver decided to try to get into the wall socket. Gah! So I plugged those up with baby-proof plugs.

Later in the morning, I started to sweep the floors downstairs. Sweeping isn't the easiest task with a baby. Oliver loves grabbing at the broom and swinging the dust pan around. I make a game out of it and pretend to sweep him up. Now, typically, Oliver crawls after me from room to room as I go. However, when I was sweeping in the dining area, I realized he remained back in the TV room. That's not good. I walked into the room, and there he was with one of the baby-proof plastic corners shoved into his mouth! He had pulled it off the corner of the TV stand. I fished that out of his mouth and grabbed the others to throw them all away. I decided to quick sweep off the patio, so I stepped outside. I kept an eye on Oliver, who watched me through the glass door. It took me about 30 seconds to sweep off the patio, and, in that time, Oliver dragged out the surge protector from underneath the desk. I ran in like grease lightning! This boy... you cannot leave him alone for a minute!

Oliver's a Mischievous Little Man

We took Oliver to the grocery this evening. I grabbed a box of Cheerios, and I showed it to Oliver. He recognized the bright yellow cereal box and started kicking his feet in excitement. I set it in the cart behind him. He stretched and twisted trying to get at it, and finally started to cry. I was able to soothe him pretty quickly.

We got home, and as a reward for being patient, I let him have the box of Cheerios. Less than a minute later, he gnawed a hole in it, so I had to take it away.

I took him to the kitchen to play while I put the groceries away. I gave him a baby spoon. After a few minutes, he slid it under the fridge. I took a lot of work, but I retrieved it and gave it back to him. He slid it back under the fridge. He did it three more times before I finally decided he was going to keep doing it over and over (yes, it took five times for me to decide this).

I moved him a few feet away, and, within a few seconds, he slid it under the washing machine! There it remains.

My Son, the Puppy

So far this morning, Oliver has bit a chunk out of one of his baby books and ate it, dragged his splash pool around the kitchen and pulled out all the folded clothes out of the laundry basket and tossed them in the hallway.
