Red Rocks Park

Red Rocks is in the next town over.  It's famous for its amphitheater, but it's actually a whole park where people go to bike and hike.  I decided to take the kids up there today.  It wasn't very stroller friendly, and Oliver didn't enjoy the sloped walk.  It was a pretty poor choice for me to go by myself with the kids, but it sure was lovely.  After about twenty minutes of taking in the scenery, we headed back to the Welcome Center for ice cream.   So, the trip wasn't an entire waste!

Jo didn't get any ice cream, but the wrapper was just as good!

Mount Falcon Park

Mount Falcon Park is less than fifteen miles from our house.  The drive is breathtaking, although the sharp mountain turns sometimes upset my stomach!  The park is worth it.  There always seems to be other families hiking the trails, and there are lots of kids.  There are cyclists on the trails, too, but Oliver's good at standing off to the side when they pass to ensure he doesn't get "flattened like a pancake."

MOMS Club at Weaver Hollow Park

Now that Oliver's more interactive, I really want to get him exposed to other kids. My plan is to attend more MOMS Club events. Sometimes, it's difficult because all the events seem to be around 10am or 11am, when Oliver is starting to wind down for his nap.

Early this morning, we decided to join another mom at Weaver Hollow Park. She had a daughter there who was turning three this fall. She was adorable and vocal. Oliver and the little girl were interested in each other and kept watching each other play, but they didn't directly interact or play together.

Here's my little man testing out the horse at Weaver Hollow Park:

Hiking Through Lair of the Bear

It was another "scorching" January day in Denver--62 degrees! Andrew and I grabbed the hiking backpack and Oliver and headed to a nearby trail called Lair of the Bear. It's an easy hike along Bear Creek that leads to a castle. The castle is private property, but you can view it from a distance.

The hike was enjoyable, and Oliver was happy to be carried around, eating Goldfish crackers. We'd occasionally pull him out to let him enjoy nature and the scenery. His favorite parts were the dirt and the dogs that walked by!
